1. What is a cookie?
A cookie is a small text file placed by a website on your browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge…). It allows information to be remembered between visits: language preference, shopping cart, logged-in session, etc.
localStorage is a similar but more modern technology built into your browser. Data stays client-side and is not sent with every request.
2. Which cookies does HIK Gaming use?
Our site uses three categories of cookies: technical (server cache), analytics (Google Analytics), and advertising (Google AdSense). Each category is detailed below.
2.1 Technical cookies (strictly necessary)
- LiteSpeed Cache: server cache cookie used to speed up page loading. Contains no personal data, used only to serve the correct cached version to the correct user (language, mobile/desktop). No opt-out: this cookie is necessary for the site to function.
2.2 Local storage (display preference)
- hik-theme: value stored in your browser’s localStorage (not as a cookie) to remember your light or dark theme choice. No information leaves your device. You can clear it any time via your browser settings.
2.3 Third-party cookies
We use two third-party tools: Google Analytics 4 for anonymised audience measurement (section 4) and Google AdSense for advertising (section 5). All opt-out options are detailed in those sections.
3. Summary table
| Name | Type | Purpose | Duration | Opt-out? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| LiteSpeed Cache | Technical cookie | Performance, caching | Session / a few hours | No (necessary) |
| hik-theme | localStorage | Light/dark preference | Until manually cleared | Yes (browser settings) |
| _ga, _ga_*, _gid | Third-party | Analytics (Google Analytics) | 24 months max | Yes (consent banner + Google opt-out) |
| NID, IDE, __gads, __gpi | Third-party | Personalised advertising (Google AdSense) | 24 months max | Yes (Google Ads Settings) |
4. Analytics cookies — Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to measure site traffic in an aggregated and anonymised way. The collected data (page views, session duration, traffic source, device type) is used solely to improve content and navigation.
Cookies set: _ga, _ga_*, _gid. Maximum lifetime: 24 months.
IP addresses are anonymised by Google before storage. To opt out, you can decline the consent banner on your next visit, or install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
5. Advertising cookies — Google AdSense
We serve advertising through Google AdSense to fund the site’s editorial production. Google and its partners use cookies to display personalised ads based on your browsing and inferred interests.
Cookies set: NID, IDE, __gads, __gpi. Maximum lifetime: 24 months.
You can manage your ad personalisation preferences via Google Ads Settings, or opt out of personalised advertising globally via YourOnlineChoices.
6. How to refuse or delete cookies?
You may at any time:
- Configure your browser to block or delete cookies (see your browser’s official help).
- Browse in private / incognito mode: cookies are erased when the window is closed.
- Use a blocker extension such as uBlock Origin, Ghostery or Privacy Badger.
- Manually clear localStorage via developer tools (F12 → Application / Storage tab).
Note: blocking strictly necessary cookies (LiteSpeed Cache) may cause some pages to load more slowly, but the site remains functional.
7. Policy changes
This policy may evolve if we add new tools. Any significant change will be signaled by a banner at the top of the site.
